EMG has released a licensed airsoft replica of the Rifle Dynamics RD-701, an AK pattern rifle. Airsoft Milsim News reported the release on 29 April 2026.

The rifle

The RD-701 is an electric rifle with an aluminium body. It has a 10.5 inch M-LOK handguard, a folding stock and a full length top rail for optics. The finish is a Splinter Cerakote pattern, a camouflage finish that breaks up the outline of the rifle.

Inside, the RD-701 uses a CYMA Platinum gearbox. CYMA is a Chinese maker, and its Platinum line is its higher end range. The replica carries Rifle Dynamics licensed markings.

No price was given in the release report.

Rifle Dynamics

Rifle Dynamics is an American company known for building modern AK rifles. Its work takes the basic Kalashnikov design and adds features that Western shooters expect, such as M-LOK handguards, top rails for optics and folding or adjustable stocks. Its rifles have made the brand well known among AK fans.

Players who like the AK look have long had to choose between traditional wooden or polymer furniture and building their own modern AK. Fitting an optic on a standard AK often needs a side mount, and fitting lights and grips needs aftermarket handguards. A rifle like the RD-701 comes with these features from the factory.

The top rail is the key part. On a real AK the top cover is removed for cleaning and does not hold zero well, so a rifle built with a solid top rail is better suited to red dots and magnified optics. The same logic carries over to airsoft, where a wobbling optic is just as frustrating.

What it means for players

The RD-701 should suit players who want an AK that handles like a modern carbine. The folding stock makes it compact for transport and for close quarters games. The M-LOK handguard has room for a light and a grip.

The CYMA Platinum gearbox suggests EMG is aiming for reliability rather than a pure high end build. Players should check the rifle's power and rate of fire against their site's rules. AK magazines are widely available, but players should check the replica's magazine compatibility before buying spares. In the UK, any realistic replica must be bought with a valid defence, such as being a regular skirmisher at an insured site.
