EMG has released a licensed airsoft replica of the Taran Tactical TR-9, a gas blowback pistol aimed at competition, training and skirmish use. The release was reported by Airsoft Milsim News on 25/07/2026.
Taran Tactical Innovations is an American company founded by Taran Butler, a competitive shooter who became widely known for training film actors to handle firearms on screen. Its pistols and parts are built for speed shooting, and its name carries weight among players who like a competition look.
What EMG has made
The TR-9 replica has a 45 degree selector, a Picatinny rail, an enhanced magwell and a carbon fibre handguard with M-LOK slots. EMG says the controls have been enhanced throughout, and the pistol uses a precision inner barrel.
Two compatibility points stand out. The TR-9 takes common Hi-Capa magazines, which many players already own, and EMG says it is compatible with MWS components. That gives owners a wide choice of spare parts from day one rather than waiting for dedicated accessories.
No price was given in the release we have seen, and EMG has not set out the gas type, weight or length in that material. We will add those details when they are confirmed.
Who it is for
A pistol with a selector, a handguard and a rail sits somewhere between a sidearm and a small carbine. On a site with buildings and short sight lines, that makes it a possible primary for players who like to travel light. With the selector on full auto, though, magazine life will be short, and most players will treat it as a fun extra rather than a main weapon.
The Hi-Capa magazine compatibility matters more than any styling detail. Magazines are where most pistol owners spend their money over time, and a replica that accepts a common pattern is cheaper to run and easier to keep going on the day if one magazine fails.
What happens next
Licensed pistols from EMG usually reach shops worldwide within a few weeks of the announcement. As with any gas pistol used in a UK winter, performance will depend on the gas used and on keeping the magazines warm between games. Players should also check their site rules before using a pistol on full auto, as some venues limit automatic fire for secondary weapons.
We will follow up when first reviews from owners appear, particularly on how well the replica works with the range of Hi-Capa magazines already on the market.
