Operation Lionclaws marks 25 events

Operation Lionclaws XXV took place at Victorville, California from 2 to 4 October 2026, the latest in a milsim series that began in 2002, with the next event set for 19 December.

Operation Lionclaws XXV was held at Victorville in California from 2 to 4 October 2026. It is the latest event in a series that began in 2002 and has become one of the best known names in American military simulation.

Lionclaws was founded in 2002, and its organisers say more than 73,000 people have attended its events since then, with around 85% of players coming back. The events are built around historical and modern military themes, and they are known for long, structured games with a clear chain of command.

Among the people the organisers list as part of the leadership are retired Colonel Danny McKnight, who commanded the 3rd Ranger Battalion during the Battle of Mogadishu in October 1993, and First Sergeant Matt Eversmann, who also served in that battle. Their involvement gives the events a link to real military experience that many players value.

How to get in

Lionclaws does not sell open tickets in the usual way. Each player has to apply for each event, and the organisers decide who takes part. Players under 18 need an adult who has attended a Lionclaws event before to vouch for them, and they must submit a written petition.

That process is unusual in airsoft, where most events are open to anyone who pays. It reflects the organisers' focus on discipline and safety, and it means a player's conduct at one event can affect whether they are accepted at the next.

Registration for Operation Lionclaws XXV is now closed.

What comes next

The next event is Operation Horn of Africa, Arabian Nights II, which is set for 19 December 2026 at Blue Cloud Movie Ranch in California. Registration for that event is open. Blue Cloud is a film location in the desert north of Los Angeles with sets built to look like towns in the Middle East and Africa, which suits the theme.

What it means for players

For UK players, Lionclaws is a long way from home, and the application process means a trip has to be planned well in advance. It is also a useful model. An event that checks who is coming, sets clear standards and brings in people with real military experience tends to produce safer and more immersive games.

Several British milsim organisers already use a similar approach, with sign up questions and strict rules on kit and conduct. We will report on Operation Horn of Africa when it has taken place, and on any dates Lionclaws announces for 2027.
