PTS Syndicate has launched the EPM1-S RX, a new version of its short magazine for M4 pattern electric rifles. The release was reported by Airsoft Milsim News on 16/09/2026.
The EPM1-S RX holds 170 rounds in a body the length of a real 20 round M4 magazine. It measures 140 by 72 by 26 mm and weighs about 260 g. It is an evolution of the earlier EPM1-S, which established the idea of a short, high capacity magazine in the PTS range.
The shell is made from DuPont Zytel, a tough nylon, and has an angled baseplate to help pull it from a pouch. A new grey internal shell and an orange window show how many rounds are left.
The main change is a new follower co-designed with Deranged Designs. PTS describes it as anti jam. Feeding problems in short magazines usually come from the BBs having to turn sharply in a small space, so a follower designed to keep them moving smoothly is the part most likely to make a difference in a game.
The magazine comes in black or Dark Earth.
Which rifles it fits
PTS lists a wide range of compatible electric rifles: Tokyo Marui, KWA, the PTS ERG, Masada and PDR-C, VFC, Classic Army, AMOEBA and most M4 pattern rifles built on a version 2 gearbox. As with any magazine, fit can vary between batches and models, so players should test a single magazine before buying a full set.
No price was given in the release we have seen.
What it means for players
Short magazines are popular for two reasons. They let players get lower to the ground when lying prone, and they look like the 20 round magazines used on some real rifles. The usual problem has been capacity and reliability. At 170 rounds, the RX holds more than many full length mid capacity magazines, so it solves the first problem. Whether the new follower solves the second will become clear once players have used it for a few months.
Site rules also matter. Some UK sites and many milsim events limit players to low or mid capacity magazines, and 170 rounds may count as high or mid capacity depending on the organiser. Players should check before taking a set to an event.
What happens next
We expect the EPM1-S RX to reach shops over the autumn. We will report on how the anti jam follower performs once owners have run it through a few winter games.
