Tokyo Marui returns to the Osaka Shot Show after six years

Tokyo Marui, the Japanese airsoft maker, took part in the 2026 Osaka Shot Show Japan Spring on 30 and 31 May. It was the company's first appearance at the show in six years. The show ran from 10:00 to 17:00 on both days at Sunball, on the basement floor of 2-9-28 Nishi-Shinsaibashi in Chuo-ku, Osaka.

What Tokyo Marui showed

Tokyo Marui used the show to display three products in the Kansai region for the first time. They were the EVOLT RS FPR MK 4, the EVOLT M4A1 Carbine and the Type 20 5.56mm Rifle gas blowback rifle.

Visitors were offered a chance to handle the FPR MK 4 and the Type 20, according to the company's event page.

The EVOLT line

EVOLT is Tokyo Marui's newest range of electric rifles. The company has been releasing new models under the name, and the FPR MK 4 and M4A1 are among them. Tokyo Marui is known for electric guns that work well out of the box, and much of the airsoft industry has copied or adapted its gearbox and hop up designs over the years.

The Type 20 5.56mm Rifle is the current service rifle of the Japan Self Defense Forces, made by Howa. Tokyo Marui's gas blowback version is one of a small number of replicas of the rifle. Interest in the Type 20 has grown since it entered service, and a gas blowback replica gives players a working action and felt recoil.

Japan has its own airsoft shows, where makers meet players and shops directly. Unlike a trade fair such as IWA in Germany, these shows are open to the public and focus on hands on displays. For Japanese players, a chance to try a new rifle before it reaches shops is a big part of the appeal.

Tokyo Marui's return after six years suggests the company is putting more effort into reaching players in western Japan. Osaka is the main city of the Kansai region, and the show gives players there a chance to see products that are normally shown in Tokyo first.

What it means for players

Tokyo Marui products are made for the Japanese market, where power limits are lower than in most of Europe. Players outside Japan who buy them should be aware that the guns may shoot below their site's limit, which can be an advantage indoors.

Players in the UK should note that any realistic replica must be bought with a valid defence, such as being a regular skirmisher at an insured site. We will report any international release dates for the new EVOLT models.
