Umarex has shown a gas blowback airsoft replica of the Ruger Mini-14 rifle. Airsoft Milsim News reported the replica on 1 March 2026, during the IWA OutdoorClassics trade fair in Nuremberg.
The replica
The Umarex Mini-14 has a stainless finish, the look many owners of the real rifle choose. It comes in two forms: one with a real wood stock, and one with a skeleton stock that folds to the side.
The hop up is Umarex's Shoot-up system, which can be adjusted from outside the rifle without stripping it. The replica uses NPAS, which allows the gas output to be tuned, so the rifle can be set to a site's power limit. It feeds from a 30 round magazine and has an adjustable rear sight.
Umarex has not given a price or a release date.
The real rifle
The Ruger Mini-14 is an American rifle chambered for .223. It was introduced in the 1970s and has been used by police forces, farmers and sport shooters. It gained wider fame in a popular television series of the 1980s, and that link is one reason it stays popular with collectors.
The folding stock version was produced mainly for police and security buyers. It became a symbol of the period, and a folding stock replica is likely to interest players who build themed loadouts.
What it means for players
The Mini-14 is not a common airsoft rifle. Most replicas on the market are AR, AK or Heckler and Koch designs, so a licensed Mini-14 gives players something different. Its wooden stock and fixed sights suit scenario games set in earlier periods, and the folding stock version suits players who want a shorter rifle.
As a gas blowback rifle it shares the strengths and weaknesses of other gas guns. It should have felt recoil and a working action, but it will use more gas and perform less well in cold weather. NPAS should help owners set the rifle for different sites and seasons, within each site's power limit.
Magazines will be a key question. The rifle uses its own magazine pattern, so spare magazines will have to come from Umarex. Players should check the price and supply of spares before buying. In the UK, any realistic replica must be bought with a valid defence, such as being a regular skirmisher at an insured site. We will report the price and release date when Umarex confirms them.
