VFC has announced two gas blowback replicas of the AK-105 rifle, the AV-105 and the AV-105 Tactical, for release on 9 June 2026. Airsoft Milsim News reported the release date on 7 June 2026. The rifles had first been seen in a video by 4UAD SMART AIRSOFT, which Airsoft Milsim News covered on 27 May 2026.

The rifles

Both models are built on VFC's latest AK gas blowback system. The receiver is full steel, as is the fire control group. The bolt carrier is a one piece part machined from steel. The rifles use a 22mm cylinder and a variable bolt stroke, which lets the owner change how far the bolt travels and so tune the recoil and gas use.

The hop up is VFC's EZ-HOP, which is easier to adjust than older AK gas hop ups. The magazine is a lightweight aluminium design that holds 107cc of gas.

According to the first impression report, the rifles use steel and stainless steel throughout, follow the correct AK-105 dimensions and have a large bore gas system. They are also said to be compatible with modern tactical upgrades.

No price was given in the release report.

The real rifle

The AK-105 is a short barrelled member of the Russian AK-100 family, chambered for 5.45x39mm. It sits between the full length AK-74M and the very short AKS-74U, and is popular with players because it is compact but still looks like a full rifle.

VFC showed an AK-105 gas rifle at IWA OutdoorClassics in Nuremberg in February and March, along with an AK-74U kit and an AKM gas rifle that it expects around April 2027. The AV-105 is part of a wider push by VFC into AK pattern gas rifles.

What it means for players

Steel construction makes these rifles heavy, but it also makes them strong. The variable bolt stroke is a useful feature for players who want to balance recoil against gas use. A shorter stroke uses less gas, which helps in cold weather, while a longer stroke gives more kick.

The 107cc magazine is large for a gas rifle and should help with shot count. Players should check which other VFC AK magazines fit, as this was not covered in the reports. As with all gas rifles, performance will drop in cold weather. Players should check their site's rules on gas rifles and on permitted gases. In the UK, any realistic replica must be bought with a valid defence, such as being a regular skirmisher at an insured site.
