VFC has released a new version of its HK416 A5 gas blowback rifle, licensed through Umarex and fitted with a new 10 inch M-LOK handguard. The release was reported by Airsoft Milsim News on 28/07/2026.
The HK416 is made by Heckler and Koch in Germany and is one of the most widely used modern assault rifles. Norway adopted it as the HK416N in 2008, the United States Marine Corps uses a version called the M27, and France selected the HK416F in 2017. The Irish Army Ranger Wing uses the A5, and Germany has adopted a version as the G95A1. The A5 is the newer generation of the design, with fully ambidextrous controls.
What VFC has made
The replica is set up in an 11 inch configuration and finished in RAL8000, the sand colour used on many HK military rifles. Its controls are fully ambidextrous, following the real A5.
Inside, it uses VFC's EVO AR gas blowback system and a steel TDC hop up with the EVO air seal unit. TDC is a hop up design that can be adjusted from outside the receiver, which makes it quicker to set for a given BB weight.
The headline changes are the new HK 10 inch M-LOK handguard, which takes accessories directly in its slots, and a new HK Gen3 gas magazine holding 30 rounds. No price was given in the release we have seen.
What it means for players
VFC's gas blowback rifles have a strong following because they are close to the real thing in weight and handling. The EVO system is VFC's current platform, so players who already own EVO rifles will want to know whether the new Gen3 magazines work in older models. VFC has not said so in the material we have seen, and we would not assume it.
An 11 inch barrel is a good middle ground for UK sites. It is short enough for buildings and long enough to look right in woodland. The RAL8000 colour suits dry and sandy settings more than a wet British winter, but it has always been popular with players who build a kit around a particular unit.
What happens next
The HK416 has been one of VFC's most important models for years, and each update tends to sell steadily. We expect it to reach shops worldwide over the coming weeks. As always with gas rifles, players should plan for colder months, when green gas and CO2 performance can drop, and check whether their site has limits on gas types.
