VFC, the Taiwanese airsoft maker, has revealed a gas blowback replica of the Sons of Liberty Gun Works MK1 rifle. Airsoft Milsim News reported the reveal on 28 February 2026.

Who is involved

The replica is a joint project between VFC, Sons of Liberty Gun Works and Lancer Tactical. VFC says the rifle is licensed for Asia and Europe. Lancer Tactical is an American airsoft brand, and the split of licences by region is common when several companies share a project, with different partners selling in different markets.

The rifle

The replica is built on VFC's latest AR gas blowback system. VFC has produced AR pattern gas rifles for many years, and its newer systems are widely used by players who want recoil and a working bolt.

VFC has not published a full specification, a price or a release date.

Sons of Liberty Gun Works is an American rifle maker known for its AR pattern rifles. Its MK1 was selected by US Special Operations Command in 2025 under the Combat Assault Rifle programme. That selection put the company in front of a much wider audience, and replicas of selected service rifles tend to follow.

A gas blowback rifle uses gas from the magazine both to fire the pellet and to cycle the bolt. This gives felt recoil and a bolt that locks back when the magazine is empty, much like the real rifle. The cost is gas use and magazine price. Gas rifles also work less well in cold weather, because the gas loses pressure as the temperature drops.

Players who play through the winter often keep an electric rifle for cold days and use their gas rifles in spring and summer. Some use a different gas or a higher pressure magazine in winter, but this must stay within the site's power limits.

What it means for players

For players in Europe the licence means the replica should be sold with the correct markings. Players who build loadouts based on current American special operations units will see the MK1 as the natural choice of rifle.

Before buying, check whether your site allows gas rifles in all games and what gases it permits. Some sites ban certain gases or set separate power limits. In the UK, any realistic replica must be bought with a valid defence, such as being a regular skirmisher at an insured site. We will report the price and release date when VFC confirms them.
