Wolverine Airsoft, the American maker of HPA engines and rifles, has shown an AK-105 version of its MTW rifle. Airsoft Milsim News reported the new model on 27 February 2026.

What Wolverine has confirmed

The rifle runs on Wolverine's INFERNO XTS engine, which takes its power from high pressure air rather than a battery and gearbox. The receiver set is made from stamped steel, the method used on the real rifle, and the trunnion is CNC machined.

Wolverine has not published a price, a release date or a full specification for the AK-105 model.

The MTW platform

The MTW, short for Modular Training Weapon, is Wolverine's own HPA rifle. It was designed from the start around an HPA engine, rather than being an electric rifle converted to air. Until now the MTW has been best known in AR pattern form. An AK pattern model is a change of direction for the platform, and gives Wolverine a rifle for players who run Eastern style loadouts.

The INFERNO engine family is Wolverine's line of HPA engines. Like other HPA systems, it uses a regulated air supply, normally from a bottle carried on the player's kit and connected by a line, and fires each shot with a short burst of air. HPA guns have little recoil and vibration, and they keep a steady muzzle velocity once set.

The AK-105 is a short barrelled member of the Russian AK-100 family. It fires the 5.45x39mm round and was designed as a compact carbine for troops who need a shorter rifle than the standard AK-74M. Its short barrel and folding stock make it a common choice for airsoft players who want an AK that handles well in buildings.

What it means for players

Steel receivers make AK replicas heavier, but they also make them stronger and closer in feel to the real rifle. Players who like the AK look but prefer HPA have mostly had to convert electric guns. A factory HPA AK from a maker that builds its own engines removes that step.

Before buying, check your site's rules on HPA. Many sites set separate power limits for HPA guns and some ask that regulators are locked. We will report the price and release date once Wolverine confirms them.
